Welcome to Franklin’s forum, a blog that will focus on Multiculturalism, and whether it causes integration or segregation. It will also focus on globalisation and how globalisation contributes to multiculturalism. One cause of globalisation is technology, most notably the internet. In the past, one could only perceive another culture if they were to travel, and this was only possible for the wealthy. In the modern day, billions of people have the ability to view other cultures at the click of a computer mouse, through videos, images, articles, social networks and many other methods.
Today, a larger number of people also have a significant amount of disposable income, and seeing as though modern day flights are relatively cheap, there is a larger amount of people travelling. Many countries have a range of restaurants that serve cuisines from all around the world, and with easy access to television shows and films for many, more people are experiencing a vast amount of cultures in a very personal way. One of the main ways that multiculturalism occurs is by immigration. Millions of people in the world move to another nation for a supposed ‘better life’; but many would argue that this immigration will always cause conflict.
